Scaling Plans Compared: 1-Step vs 2-Step vs Instant Funding

Each challenge structure suits a genuinely different trading style and risk tolerance — there isn't a universally "best" option, only the one that best matches how you actually trade and how much time you have available to demonstrate it.

1-Step Challenges

A single evaluation phase with a profit target and drawdown rules to clear before funding. Faster to potentially reach a funded account, but with less margin for a rough patch along the way, since there's no second phase to recover in.

2-Step Challenges

Two sequential evaluation phases, typically with a lower profit target in the second phase than the first. Slower overall, but it gives a trader who has one uneven phase a chance to demonstrate consistency in the other — a structure that tends to suit traders who occasionally have a rough week but are consistent over a longer horizon.

Instant Funding

No evaluation phase — funded status from day one, typically with different fee structures and profit-split terms to reflect the higher risk taken on by the firm without a demonstrated track record first. This suits traders confident in a tested strategy who'd rather skip the evaluation timeline entirely, in exchange for different economics.

"The right structure isn't the one that gets you funded fastest. It's the one whose rules match how you actually trade day to day."

  • Consistent, moderate-drawdown traders often do well with 1-step structures
  • Traders whose results vary more week to week may prefer the built-in second chance a 2-step structure provides
  • Instant funding suits traders with an already-proven, tested strategy who want to skip the evaluation timeline
  • Compare profit-split and fee terms across structures, not just the challenge rules — the economics differ meaningfully
